I've had the impression that Brad Underwood does a better job against certain Big Ten coaches when you take into account the point spread or the relative strength of the teams going into the game. I'm ignoring any matchups from previous schools.

I apologize for this being crude. If you had against the spread data you could do this much more precisely.

Fred Hoiberg (Nebraska) - 1 much tougher than expected, 3 about as expected (slight advantage Hoiberg)
Danny Manning (Maryland) - 1 game, went about as expected (no advantage)
Ben Johnson (Minnesota) - 1 game, easier than expected (advantage Underwood)
Fran McCaffery (Iowa) - 5 as expected, 1 easier than expected, 3 much tougher than expected (slight advantage McCaffery)
Steve Pikiell (Rutgers) - 4 much easier than expected, 1 tougher than expected, 1 much tougher than expected, 2 about as expected (advantage Underwood)
Chris Holtmann (Ohio State) - 2 about as expected, 1 easier than expected, 2 tougher than expected, 1 much easier than expected, 1 much tougher than expected (draw)
Juwan Howard (Michigan) - 2 much easier than expected, 1 easier than expected (big advantage Underwood)
Greg Gard (Wisconsin) - 2 easier than expected, 1 much easier than expected, 1 about as expected, 2 tougher than expected, 1 much tougher than expected (draw)
Tom Izzo (Michigan State) - 3 much tougher than expected, 1 about as expected, 1 much easier than expected, 2 tougher than expected (advantage Izzo)
Chris Collins (Northwestern) - 6 about as expected, 1 much easier than expected, 1 tougher than expected (draw)
Mike Woodson (Indiana) - no matchups
Micah Shrewsberry (Penn State) - no matchups
Matt Painter (Purdue) - 1 about as expected, 2 much easier than expected, 1 tougher than expected, 1 easier than expected (advantage Underwood)

Of the 11 coaches Underwood has played, here's the ranking from toughest to easiest coaching matchup.

Disadvantage
1. Tom Izzo (-0.86)

Slight Disadvantage
2. Fran McCaffery (-0.56)
3. Fred Hoiberg (-0.5)

Draw
4. Chris Holtmann (-0.14)
T-5 Danny Manning (0)
T-5 Greg Gard (0)
7. Chris Collins (0.13)

Advantage
8. Steve Pikiell (0.63)
9. Ben Johnson (1)
10. Matt Painter (1)

Big Advantage
11. Juwan Howard (1.7)

This is why I look forward to playing Michigan.
