Take it easy...
It’s easy to lose your head about a loss, especially one as close as today’s, but take it easy. The fact is that USF squad is much more talented than this Illini roster. That’s just a fact. Would it have been nice to see the Illini take advantage of a more talented squad that continually shot itself in the foot? Yes. Is it surprising that this super young squad wasn’t able to close out a game against a supieror opponent? No.
Don’t blame the staff for players being suspended. That’s stupid. You think the coaching staff wanted to be without those starters that are suspended? Come on. If you have defined rules with defined circumstances, though, you have to uphold them. Their absense isn’t on the staff, it’s on the players and their actions. Blame them if you’re frustrated that they weren’t on the field.
As frustrating as the loss was, they showed signs of progress. It seems we see reports out of camp and expect an All-World team. The fact is that this team is still super young. Teams with this young of a roster don’t usually win many games, but I still think they’ll get five wins this year.
Also, cool it with the fire Lovie stuff. The University of Illinois can’t expect to get a more experienced, knowledgeable coach than Lovie. What? You want him gone so they can hire another random coach from the MAC? Give me a break. What do we have to lose in letting a experienced NFL coach build a roster while an invested AD build the program around him to help him out as much as he can? The University hasn’t taken a smart approach to building the program like this in years. It’s hard for the impatient fan, but steps forward are being made. This staff is fantastic at evaluating talent. They will win seven games next year after winning five games this year. (Rutgers, Minnesota, Purdue).
Moral victories don’t exist? That’s nonsense. For a rebuilding program, they absolutely do. Like the analysts said after the game, this is going to be a good team. Fans just have to be patient and continue to support this staff and Whitman. Yes, I know you’ll say you’ve been patient for years, but that doesn’t matter. There’s no magic wand they can wave to instantly start winning. This is a ground up rebuild being done the right way. Your patience will be rewarded this time.
