It's pretty obvious that Whitman "screwed the pooch" on the football hire. The jury is out on Underwood. His determination to continue with Lovie Smith could and may be be his "Waterloo"...his hand could be tied because of a bad contract that he is fully responsible for. His inability or refusal to correct this abysmal failure could find Illinois in a dire position when the stands are empty next season and there is no football revenue to prop up the DIA. While his fund raising has been above par, his promise that #wewillwin rings hollow. This football team is not simply going to turn from the worst in college football to a bowl game, and what fans are left, are going to leave in droves. This situation is going to leave Illinois in the market for a new football coach, but possibly a new AD... Who would take on the $#@! that is Illinois revenue sports? Starting from square #1 again? It's hard to imagine that it could get worse than Thomas and Beckman, but it's now time to consider the real possibility that it has. Too early? or time to start the conversation?
