I watched the BTN preview late yesterday and figured I’d start a discussion on a few things.

First, seems like we are better and they was a clear consensus. What that means??? I don’t know. Concerns me a little that improvement didn’t seem to have many thinking breakout. I mean, 4 wins won’t be changing narratives. I’d sure like to be able to compete with PU and NW (if NW is in one of their mediocre years). I’m glad things are headed the right way, let’s just hope we get the breaks.

Second, wanted to give opinions on how the coaches came off.

On the HC, Lovie may not say much, but he’s of above average intelligence and thoughtful. Refreshing after a multitude of coaches who don’t qualify as such. Explains why he’s a defensive innovator, which is relatively rare.

On the OC, Smith was great. Smart. Engaging. Like him a lot and was legit worried he’d be the stereotypical “fat guy” assistant with a lot of bluster and less acumen. He’s not that. He’s gonna be good.

On the DC, I don’t see it. Nickerson should have been hired as a LB coach. He didn’t have the pedigree for such a high level job and I didn’t really get a great feel that he’s the kind of “good on the fly” thinker. As I doubt he’s going anywhere, I wouldn’t mind if we hired a hot young recruiter as co-DC next year and emphasized his importance in recruiting and developing specific LBers. I think he could fit there.

I’m more optimistic than I was three weeks ago, but let’s get some wins!!!
