Interesting thought process about whether the failures of past administrations is a cultural problem or a problem with the individuals in charge.
I'm going to say events of the past 50 hours would indicate that the problem has been the specific individuals in charge and not a "cultural" issue. I personally don't think there is a significant difference between the cultures of most large universities, and the "administration" writ large has never been a real factor in our problems in fielding winning athletics (the problem has been bad ADs and bad coaches supervised by disinterested bosses).
I know his name is mud around here, but I think Mike Hogan had the right understanding of the place of athletics. He just hired the wrong person to carry it out and was engaged in other losing battles across the university system that were going to limit what involvement he had with sports. Chancellor Wilson seems to also have the right understanding. She appears to have hired the right person to carry it out!
