Suspensions. It is kept in house and normally not for a defined period unless very bad or very minor behavior. There were suspensions last year that the media never picked up on.
Something I have not heard discussed... our special teams will be very good this year. Coach Li isn’t a recruiter, but he is one of the best ST coaches in the country. He had one NFL team very interested this offseason—he was a NFL ST coordinator for several years. He did decent last year with little talent, and now he doesn’t have to coach TE. He doesn’t recruit, but I believe he is the best ST coordinator in the conference. The best.
Probably the biggest benefit to having an NFL scout is for dbs. College hasn’t caught up with NFL in scouting these guys. You need height, length, speed and agility with your hips. Holy balls we have some good freshmen. Add Beason next year with everyone returning....couple that with the fact that soon teams will be unable to run the ball up the middle with our DTs .... I am excited.
Back to the suspensions, often times the involved players don’t know how long they will be out. When they give vague responses, they are often being truthful.
Crouch, George last year and now we have AJ Bush. Best leader I have seen since Juice.
Concerns, and the I admit I was wrong mea culpa, offensive line. First team is young, but some talent with high ceilings. Second team, run to the hills. It’s very early, but the freshmen appear a notch or 2 below last years class. Need Boyd, but he has been running with the third stringers. Injuries could really hurt.
I cannot get info on Dorsey. He will play in the NFL someday if he keeps his head on straight, but he has been relegated to the walk ons at this point. I get radio silence when I asked about him. Not a good sign. I d/k if he is not getting things done/complacency? That seemed to be the mandate from above. We will see.
With Bush at qb, I will put us at 5-7. We can beat USF. Run the table preseason, we just need 2 more victories. I’m sorry, but I believe Purdue, Minny, Rutgers, the dumpster fire at Maryland ... can’t convince me it is not possible to win 2 of those. And there is always a possibility of an upset of Iowa or NW. Longshot, but possible. Again, the leadership of Bush may prove to be a game changer. The offensive guys love him and the defensive guys respect the hell out of him.
I have more stuff that I will try to pass on later this week.
