Can someone with more knowledge about college defenses explain why our run defense was such a challenge this year? I get that our offense kept the defense on the field too much, but my impression coming into the season was that we had two defensive ends and middle linebacker with talent and experience, and that our defensive tackle situation was serviceable, especially with the two freshmen making strides early in the season. I would assume that with Lovie, Hardy and Phair we would have had a scheme that worked with this group. What am I missing?
I was at the NU game and could not believe the open lanes that Jackson was running through. He was literally untouched until he was 10-15 yards downfield on a number of plays - and NU's offensive line is average at best.
