Question on Lot 31 Tailgating

Although I have lived in Champaign since 1979 I have never had a parking pass for lot 31 (big grass lot across First St west of stadium). Does anyone have a recommendation on what time it would be wise to stake out my space on Saturday so that I don't get stuck all the way to the west along Oak Street? How many hours before game time to people usually start showing up to the tailgate lots?
