I don't follow the women's team much, but I do check the scores and occasionally catch a couple home games.
I don't know a lot about women's college basketball including what the quality should be like but it can be very brutal for me to watch the Illini ladies.
I watched a little of their game at SIU today and some other games throughout Fahey's tenure. It seems like her teams lack fundamentals. Bad passes and silly turnovers, poor shot selection, defensive breakdowns, poor rebounding. Often times, they can get out to a great start but can't finish games, or start way behind that they can't catch up. This may not always be the case but in most games I have watched in person, it does seem like it.
By no means do I expect them to play like the men's team, but most of the time it seems so brutal to watch, I don't watch all of their games.
SIU was a smaller team height wise but they out rebounded us, had fewer turnovers, and scored many points off of our turnovers and second chance put backs. They beat us by 15 and they are just a mediocre team.
Fahey's only wins in her time her against instate teams are two against Chicago State and one against Bradley. and one against SIU-E The rest have been losses. One each to ISU, WIU, and SIU-E and now SIU, The rest are 9 losses to the NUrds (although you have to go back to 2014 when Bollant was here for a win against them). If you can't beat the instate teams, why would anyone from this state want to play here?
Just how much can we endure of Fahey? Nothing against her as a person and her coaching abilities, but Div. 1 ball doesn't seem to be her forte. I don't expect us to be a UConn, Tennessee, Texas or even DePaul, but I don't see this getting better anytime soon.
If they were competitive, I would probably go to more of their games.
