Not sure I like it all that much. The obvious alternative is to give the top two seeds a first-round bye into the quarterfinals and then the other 12 teams square off for the other six quarterfinal spots. Granted, you can't play six games on Thursday on the same court but a couple of those games could be moved to Wednesday evening as long as the winners are to face each other on Friday.
edit: For Wednesday, perhaps play the 8 vs 9 and 7 vs 10 games as those winners will face the #1 and #2 seeds on Friday, who don't play on Thursday anyway.
