The stroke play starts on Friday. Here is a nice article on the team and the upcoming tournament - by our friend Teddy Greenstein no less.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-ncaa-golf-illinois-men-20170524-story.html

I liked this quote by Jerry Rich:

"Huge," Rich said of the Illini rally. "We've been working with Illinois for over a year. The key was, they had to get in."

Rich wants to share his love for amateur golf with as wide an audience as possible. Illinois has more than 450,000 living alumni, according to its web site, some of whom plan to tailgate before rounds.

Looking at live scoring, the women's semifinals must have been an amazing event. Both went 3-2 and 4 matches went extra holes.
Can't wait for the men's and hopefully the Illini can get some home crowd momentum and get into the match play.

The men are going to get much better weather. It must have been brutal for the women this past week. I don't know how the NCAA will set up the course for the guys. But, this is one tough course.

The club is an amazing place and the service is incredible. But, I think the course is too penal with too many gotcha shots lurking everywhere. Not a course that rewards good shots and punishes bad shots.

It is literally in the middle of corn fields and other farm lands, and totally exposed. If they set this up long (which I what I am guessing), it could be a very hard track with any wind blowing through the course. From what I saw on Golf Channel, the fairways were not that wide.

It does seem like the Illinois kids have been practicing there often. That should be a big advantage. Unless the course is crazy long, the narrow fairways and undulating greens should be a good set up for Dylan Meyer.

Think it is set up as 7300 yards for Men. Needs to dry out a bit over next week, but decent weather will help Meyer.

Illini need help from the 3-5 spots. Gotta have the 5 spot hanging in there.

Wonder if Feagles is a shoe in or not for that spot.

So, who are the five playing this weekend and hopefully next week?

    Meyer, Hardy, Lipparelli and ???

Tadiotto has to be in. Was really solid last week.

Feagles or Baumgarten I would think for last. Probably Feagles.

By the way, I have seen NU's women team practice at courses in northern suburbs. Really nice kids. I am happy for them.

That might work against us. We probably have a better chance in bad weather. But better for the fans, for sure.

Not allowed to practice or play there this year, except for Thursday practice round. NIU even moved their fall tournament to Beverly CC instead of having it at RHF.

Small was on one of the radio shows, says he doesn't make changes once post season starts. Although the NCAA did make a rule change (due to Hossler's injury last year) allowing subs, doesn't even have to be due to injury.

So I expect the same 5 that have been playing.

Thought I recall Small making a change in one of the past couple years.

Thanks. If that is the case, Jerry Rich's comment about "working with Illinois" probably refers to getting Illinois fans out there with the help of the university AA.

I think there was some Lipparelli vs Burge discussion last year. It hasn't been until very recently that we've had enough depth to even really contemplate any moves.

Yeah, remember it being around adding Burge. Thought it was prior to last year though, maybe back 3 years?

Looks like a decent amount of rain in the forecast for Friday, Sunday, and Monday?

Wow, look at that rating. Will it be set up as tough for the men?

Let the grind begin. Like Hardy said, be patient and pick your spots to be aggressive.

It is a very tough course. It will be interesting to see the slope and rating for the men's setup.

"Good" results relative to Illini's chances so far this morning. Only 5-6 teMs under par and only Bama and Auburn going real low so far. Post something around E to a couple under his afternoon, and we'll be in good shape.

Afternoon group of teams is really strong. Yes, I agree with your sentiment. Just post something solid. It'd be nice to keep 5 guys contributing. Just feel like we are playing with 3.5 to 4. Tadiotto continuing play from last week would be big.

Round 1 & 2 tee times are done by seeds, the top half of the field goes out late today, then early tomorrow.

He bounced back nicely. After the double and quad he came back with couple birdies.

Feels like my round today.... I had a birdie, quintuple, birdie stretch. Yikes.

Nice start for the day. We're currently 3rd @ 13 under through 12-14. Finished the 1st round strong, and at 7 under so far in the 2nd round.

    Oklahoma is tearing it up - they're -17 through 11 today - (1) eagle, (16) birdies, and (2) bogeys.

Oklahoma with a bit of a meltdown. They got to -21 and have hit the skids. Two triples just a bit ago and are now down to -14.

We are comfortable position in regards to the cut to 16, but the cut to 8 is not a given. Certainly in great shape though

As good as they were playing Oklahoma fell apart at the end.

It said he has to get medical treatment every 8 weeks for the rest of his life.

Speaking of moving forward, Meyer will have to undergo medicinal treatments every eight weeks for the rest of his life, doctors told him. He got his second loading dose right before NCAAs. It’s a wake-up call, for sure, but Meyer feels more than ready to deal with the adversity. He also appreciates the game even more now.

That is a really tough, nasty disease. My brother was struck by it as a preteen and his lived his life with it.

I am awestruck by Meyer's ability to compete so effectively at this level while dealing with colitis. If the team could win this tournament, that would a beautiful testament to Dylan, his teammates and Coach Small, and would be an Illini legend for the ages. Go Illini!
