Constantly looked mixed up on coverage. In first series, can’t cover basic flood concept.
Can we get our LB coaches to teach how to drop into coverage? We actually did try and drop underneath the slants but dropped to flat where there was no receiver instead of under the slant.
LB doesn’t know where to line up on simple spread look, no one checks QB….. easy score. Multiple times DB’s and LB’s confused on alignment. 7-0
IW did get held on 3rd down play, but also a poor concept. No deep threat, forced to IW, #3 receiver Barker on crosser had more space and might have ran for first down. S’s came up hard because no one went deep.
Fix Art missing so high please. At least get him to look at 2 progressions. Make decisions quicker.
UTSA’s passing concepts much better. Took what we gave them, found the green grass on slants and hitches.
3rd and 8 in red zone. Terrible defense alignment and call. Right Hash, We have 6 defenders on on left of C, 2 on 2 no LB help or S help….Motion into trio, easy pitch and catch on slant on soft straight man.
MLB, lots of energy, good on blitzes, has generated big turnovers….. W need better MLB play. Can’t fill the holes and gets blocked easily…...4 year MLB how can coaches not see this? TD 14-0. Will hurt us later in game and all season.
Nice play concept on Spann TD….. Needed to attack deep in early drives in 1st Q, they were playing aggressive with S’s
Great 2nd Q…… set up to get ball back and bad bounce on punt. Navarro needs to field the punt or scream fire or peter and get blockers to disengage and run away. Bad luck but poor execution as well. Just watched it again. Navaro needs the run up and catch the line drive punt, and why the F is he 60 yards deep. Terrible coaching? Punted from 30, you have returner on the 20 and he is not in position to field the punt. Stupid. 6 to 10 point turn around at least. We moved the ball last two plays of half, ran out of time.
3-10 early 3rd Q……. wide bunch, no receiver attacking wide open middle of field…… this is the era of Air Raid & run and shoot concepts started in 80’s….. You have to have receivers read green grass or at least one on an option route……. You can’t have all 3-4 running canned routes into coverage. Spacing, vary who attacks deep, and have an underneath receiver find the open space.
3rd and 7 just outside red zone…… WR need to understand spacing and green grass. When you run 4 vert or 2 vert, You need to stay along sideline and hash……. Casey brought his man to hash and the defender broke up an open IW. Good call, bad routes. If Casey ran curl or dig or stayed along sideline on fade, with Navarro wheel…. Probably a TD.
3rd and 7…. UTSA backed up……. 21 in game no idea where to line up……. WTF is this defense and alignment…… UTSA coaches try ro check to a play….. Luckily Adams breaks it up. So messed up alignment…. They didn’t know what to call. LOL
3rd and 2 on our 39…… 2nd straight game we don’t block the backside edge defender and no one hits ILB, hand to Epstein and he runs horizontal for 2 yard loss. Sickening. Doubles formation…. They almost had 8 in box……… we ran straight zone 5 on 8…… HUh? Need to either read the EML or block him….. You can’t not block playside MLB…. if you RPO him on that play the slot was wide open. JV HS teams run this S%$t. Also, why not down hill play with lead blocker worked well early, or slip lead blocker in flat on PA. Poor play call, 3rd down plan?
21 wow… just lost…. Get pressure on QB he lobs it in the air. Completion. Nicholson? I thought he made 2 big plays last week…. Has to be better than 21.
Where is Jafar Armstrong and Eddie Smith? HTF do you come from Alabama and ND and can’t get on the field at Illinois? At least we didn't strike out with Hart, but of course he gets hurt. Then our best DL gets hurt. Where is super diet champion in best shape of his life #2?
Down 3, we go pressed man cover one, and give up fade for a big play. Then we can’t cover a WR screen out of bunch…. We have no defender lined up outside . They gave this look multiple times. TD
Nice pays calls to come back with TD. Defense got stops at end of both halfs..... though UTSA did not attack that last 3 and out.
8 guys in box and we can’t stop run. We need a BT level MLB. Watch the film on this drive. Find someone who can fill, run fit, and scrape off blocks. Not rocket science…….again watch film from last few years.
Play calling and Art better in 4th, gave us a chance. Tough throw and catches to IW. Last few plays we didn’t get anyone open, and too much arm on HM or we might have tied it up.
