Ok, now that I said it I want to add all sorts of caveats to this:
a. Kyler Murray 'burst' onto the scene as a 3rd year player- 1 year at Texas A&M; 1 yr redshirt at Oklahoma; and then at Oklahoma so he is either a Junior or a RS Soph;
b. Murray was not impressive as a freshman at Texas A&M-- not a good fit- thus his transfer;
c. Murray's dad Kevin Murray was a legendary QB at Texas A&M and has a sideline career as a QB guru. Like it or not, Kyler got good training above and beyond the Oklahoma system;
d. Kyler played in the Oklahoma system- hard to calculate what that means to his performance.
All that being said, Kyler burst the model of the tall drop back pro-style QB (if that still exists as a desirable skill set-- see Wes Lunt) or the Fullback sized QB who also runs (Sam Ehlinger, Baker Mayfield, Tom Brady, Carson Wentz). So Kyler Murray is a throwback to the Doug Flutie sort of mighty mite QB.
What impact does this have on the Illini Isiah Williams and how he will be used in 2019?
