CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Former Illinois quarterback Kurt Kittner will serve as the Illinois football team's honorary captain against Michigan State on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT on FS1.
Kittner was a four-year letterwinner at Illinois from 1998-2001. He led Illinois to the 2001 Big Ten title as a senior and took the Illini to the 2002 Sugar Bowl, Illinois' first appearance in the Bowl Championship Series, and a 10-2 record.
Kittner, a native of Schaumburg, left Illinois as the school's all-time winningest quarterback and holder of four school records: career total offense, career and single season touchdown passes, and career passing attempts. He was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team after leading the Big Ten in passing yards (3,256) and passing touchdowns (27) as a senior.
Kittner was drafted in the fifth round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
