Fighting Illini senior golfer, Charlie Danielson, will represent Illinois at this year's Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase. One of just 14 collegiate standouts to appear in the PGA Tour event, Danielson will play alongside Illini alum and PGA TOUR professional, Scott Langley, as well as two Illinois amateur players.
"I'm really looking forward to this event," Danielson said of the opportunity. "It's going to be a great opportunity and a chance to play a professional golf tour event. It's very special for me, that I was chosen from our program, especially with how deep our team is. To be selected for the event means a lot and shows that my hard work is paying off."
The showcase will be held on Monday, Feb. 15 at the Rivera Country Club in Palisades, Calif., and will pair tour professionals and amateur boosters with collegiate golfers. The professional and the two amateurs will team up in a best-ball competition, competing for the Collegiate Showcase Trophy, which will also earn the university's golf program a donation of $50,000. Each collegiate student-athlete in the group will play with his own ball, with the low medalist earning a spot in the 2016 Northern Trust Open.
Monday's tee times begin at 10:30 a.m. CT.
