I had a chance on Friday during the delay to talk with AD Mike Thomas.

Blueprints for the Memorial Stadium project for the south end are completed. The same company that designed the SFC renovation drew them up.

It will be a multi-storied football facility that includes offices, training rooms, recruiting area, etc. It will also have an all-sports dining facility for student athletes.

Thomas said he is in the beginning stages of putting together a list of potential donors for the project. He's not quite ready to take it public yet and begin soliciting funds.

Mike said when he took the job, he felt upgrading the football facilities was very important to the program because they were competing with schools with tremendous facilities like Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc. When he goes on the road for games, he arrives in advance and tours the opposing school's facilities.

Thomas also said that programs largely have to pay for these things themselves by putting better products on the field. So it's a bit of a catch-22. But he hopes to start raising funds and get the ball rolling.
