Heard Trent Dilfer talking on the radio this morning, and he was talking about McVay. Said people talk about him being innovative, but he's really not. Said he gets the "most out of his least" and "best from his best". Said he and Belichick are similar in that regard.
He also said something that dtrain has talked about in the past. Innovation occurs mostly at the HS level, and then coaches from college and the NFL take those ideas. HS coaches that consistently win with average athletes tend to be the most innovative. RPO and spread offenses really started at the HS level. Then college coaches realized they could use it to beat more talented teams. Now NFL coaches are realizing the same thing.
Nothing earth shattering, but interesting none the less. I enjoyed hearing him give credit to HS coaches, because they don't get credit from many. Most think successful HS coaches can't do it at a higher level, but some just need a chance. Also, Illinois needs to have innovative coaches on offense, because they will never have more talent than the top B1G teams.
