Do you remember the movie Colors? Sean Penn, Robert DuVal among others. Hi Top, Felipe, Rocket...
A young upstart Cop Penn would get excited in some ways, eager to speak, quick to the pounce. DuVal, the seasoned and experienced veteran who's been there before, more wise/more deliberate. Not so quick to jump in the fray, not wanting to expose his flank.
DuVal tells young Penn a story.....
Two bulls up on a hill watching down as a swarm of Cows grazing in the pasture. The son says to his Dad, "Papa, what do you say we run down the hill and go (mate) one of those cows. His dad replies, "good idea Son, but why don't we walk down and (mate) them all?"
This is kind of how I saw yesterday's press conference for Whitman. First, he's very talented and made a BIG splash landing Lovie. He scored a lot of political points with that move. But information travels fast today, and we are in a what have you done for me lately society. I don't want to blast him any longer but this was a situation where it would've been a good thing if he had a close confidant, a brain trust working with him that might have issued caution on this idea. Or in the very least, really worked and rehearsed on the messaging that he would then extend. I've often thought the same with Groce. No wise experience on his staff, no grizzled vet to guide him on where the landmines are on a recruit, etc... Sometimes a little to quick or eager.
Anyway, just wanted to channel my inner BigWill with this Story and hope you enjoyed that movie too!
