I have heard a hundred times the past week or two that a poster's outrage, anger , hostility and desire to fire the staff was because "we have not missed back to back NCAA tournaments in twenty years." To those that share that opinion, let me ask-would you have felt less angry, hostile, and have been less outraged if we snuck into the tournament like Indiana, Purdue, or Iowa, and looked like we did not belong? We did not belong.
What disappointed me was that we were not good enough to compete at an NCAA Tournament level. Not just to get in like some of these other teams that had lousy seasons, but to compete with the teams that belong.
Of course there are a lot of reasons, most importantly the absence of quality recruits over a three year span. Another reason is that staff was forced to fill the gaps with transfers , and they did not perform as expected. A third, as has often been stated, is our playing 3 on 5 on offense.
Preseason,I had hoped that our transfers, and a remarkable improvement by Egwu, would prove the predictions of 8th place in the Big 10 wrong. I was wrong , and the predictions were right.
