Two youngsters who caught my eye at the Chicago Elite Classic.
Ayo Dosunmu, 2018 PG, Morgan Park. Ayo could be the next top point guard at Morgan Park. He grew 3 inches since last year and is around 6-foot-3. Long, athletic point guard with all the tools and range on his shot.
Messiah Jones, 2018 SF, Simeon. His skill set is still developing, but Jones is a high-motor, run and jump athlete much like Ed Morrow. He defends and really gets on the offensive glass. Jones is 6-foot-5 now and growing.
Rough outing for Nojel Eastern against Morgan Park, even though he did score 19 points. He's still not the old Nojel, and the MP ball pressure really got to him. Front page story coming. Eastern says he feels most comfortable at PG, but I see a small forward.
Jayson Tatum and Alterique Gilbert put on a show in their game. Tatum 40 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists. Gilbert 32 points and several spectacular dunks. He's dynamic.
Zach Norvell was just okay. He takes some 30' shots that make Rob Smith cringe. Norvell isn't all that great with the ball in his hands. He needs to be a guy who comes off of screens and / or swings the baseline and spots up.
2017 wing DJ Harvey from Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha is a stud. Typical DeMatha wing at 6-foot-5. No. 11 nationally in his class.
Morgan Park just gets after it defensively. Constant ball pressure. MP and Belleville Althoff are the overwhelming favorites to win the Class 3A title.
As I posted last night, Simeon sophomore guard Kezo Brown didn't play. Still no word on why. I don't believe he's injured.
St. Louis Chaminade junior Reggie Crawford is a top WR prospect on the Chaminade football team. He's really developed as a shooter on the hardwood, and looks like a legit mid major-plus SG prospect.
