Champaign, ILL.– The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced a gift of $1 million from 1986 Grainger Engineering graduate Bryan Ingram and his wife, Patti, for the Ubben Basketball Complex renovation and expansion project.

"Even prior to attending the University of Illinois, I greatly admired its standards of excellence in both athletics and academics," Ingram said. "As a lifelong Illini sports fan, I am proud to demonstrate that by supporting the Ubben Complex and our student-athletes that embody those high standards."

After graduating from the University of Illinois, he went on to get his master's in engineering from Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering. Ingram primarily worked in Silicon Valley and was most recently COO of Avago Technologies and SVP of the Wireless Semiconductor Division at Broadcom Inc. He is now a director for private and public company boards and invests in technology startups.

Ingram is a proud native of Du Quoin, Ill., and a graduate of Du Quoin High School. He and Patti continue to encourage young engineering minds from his home region with scholarship endowments in The Grainger College of Engineering benefiting students at Illinois from Southern Illinois.

"We are so appreciative of Bryan and Patti's generosity to the Illinois basketball programs," Director of Athletics Josh Whitman said. "We know that Bryan's experiences at Illinois have continued to shape his philanthropic choices with his dedication to The Grainger Engineering, and we are so thankful that he has chosen to help our athletic program, an area that he has been passionate about even before his time as an Illinois undergraduate."

The Ubben renovation and expansion will add approximately 40,000 square feet to the existing structure, while remodeling large portions of the existing building. New coach's office space and entry lobby are included in the project. Two new half courts will be added to both the women's and men's current gym space, giving the two programs additional space to work on development while not disrupting full-court action. The project will feature a new strength and conditioning addition, significantly increase the size of the locker rooms and players lounges and include a state-of-the-art sports medicine area.

Groundbreaking on new construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2021.

"This generous gift comes as a result of collaboration with staff at Grainger Engineering," Senior Associate Athletic Director Howard Milton said. "Working with alumni from various campus units, has helped us to move closer to reaching many of our capital campaign goals. We couldn't be more thankful for their generosity."

To date, Illinois has secured $22 million in commitments for the Ubben Basketball Complex renovation and expansion project toward the $35 million goal.

The Ingram gift is included in the DIA's $300 million fundraising goal, which is part of "With Illinois," the $2.25 billion University-wide fundraising campaign.
